Section 1: General questions about the Support Match NB Website
What is Support Match NB and how does it work?
Support Match NB is an online database designed to match an individual with a disability and their family with potential support workers in their area. The website has two sides: one meant for individuals/ families and one meant for support people. An individual/ family can create a job posting detailing their needs that support people can then apply for. Or an individual/ family can simply browse profiles of potential support people.
A support person can create a profile of their skills and credentials. Support people can search for job postings in their area. They can then apply for jobs directly through the website. The individual/ family will then be alerted via email that someone has applied for their job posting.
The personal contact information that an individual/family used to register is not sent when they communicate about a job posting unless they choose to include it within their message or job posting.
The personal contact information that a support worker used to register is not sent when they communicate about a job posting unless they choose to include it within their message or support worker profile.
How can I increase matches to support people?
Matches are made by the number of job types, skills and credentials, etc. that you select that are shared with potential support people. You can increase matches by selecting fewer criteria on your job posting and when you are searching for resumes–only select the credentials and skills that are essential for the job. The greater the number of criteria you select, the less likely it is that you will find a support person who will match all of those criteria.
When searching through resumes, you can edit the criteria being used for searches. If you live in a rural community, try selecting the nearest city. This will show you more options. You can also increase the radius of your search by selecting a higher number of kilometers. When the search results appear, it will list how many kilometers each support person is from your location. The filter of skills and credentials is automatically set to find the widest set of matches. The more skills and credentials you select, the less likely it is that you will find a support person who matches all the selected criteria.
Support people can also edit the search criteria when looking through job postings. If you are willing to travel, you can change the location of your search. If you live in a rural community, try selecting the nearest city. This will show you more options. The filter for the job postings is automatically set to find the widest number of matches. Making sure all the fields are checked will return the highest possible number of matches. The more boxes you uncheck, the fewer results will appear.
